The team at Oakwood are all here today despite the snow, going the extra mile to keep services running as normal.
One thing we are experiencing is, a lot of boiler breakdowns and a lot of these are related to the more modern condensate boilers. These have a pipe that runs out of the back of the boiler, through the wall and usually connects to a drain pipe or similar. As hot steam condensates back to water and runs away, it cools down. If the pipe is thin or has bends or similar, it can cause the flow of water to slow and freeze in the current temperatures. This can be release by pouring warm (not boiling) water over it to free the blockage and then reset the boiler.
